When the smaller footprint is the right call
A 4030 is usually chosen for one of two reasons: the goods are dense enough that a full 6040 would be too heavy for one person to lift, or the picking operation wants more SKU separation across the same pallet area.
The trade is handling count. Eight crates per pallet layer instead of four means twice the lifts, twice the labels and twice the put-aways. That is worth paying when it stops a two-person lift or a mis-pick, and not worth paying when the goods are light.
Depths here run shallower on average than the 6040 range, which suits parts, hardware, retail replenishment and any operation moving many small lines rather than few large ones.
