Built for water, ice and constant cleaning
Seafood crates carry two things at once: the catch and the ice keeping it cold. As the ice melts, the meltwater has to leave, or the load sits in warming water for the rest of its journey. Drainage through the base is the single most important feature of the format.
The same design has to survive daily washdown and, in many operations, chemical sanitising. Food-grade HDPE takes that treatment without absorbing odour or degrading the way untreated plastics do.
Depth is chosen by the catch. Shallow crates suit fillets and delicate species where crush damage is the risk; deeper crates suit whole fish and volume handling where ice ratio matters more.
