Airflow and cleaning are the whole specification
Live transport crates have to move a great deal of air, because birds generate heat and a stalled pallet in Gulf conditions becomes dangerous quickly. Ventilation on every face, including between stacked crates, is what makes that possible.
Cleanability is the other half. Crates cycle between farms, and a crate that cannot be fully disinfected between loads is a disease vector. Smooth mouldings with no traps, in HDPE that takes repeated chemical cleaning, are what the job requires.
