Nesting versus stacking, and why it matters
A plain stacking crate holds its full height whether loaded or empty, so a return leg of empty crates costs the same space as the outbound loaded one. On a fixed route that is a permanent, recurring cost.
A nestable crate solves it by tapering: empty, it drops inside the one below and a column of them takes a fraction of the height. Loaded, a bail arm or a rotation of the crate lets it stack square instead.
The trade against a foldable crate is that nesting still leaves each crate at its own footprint — you save height, not floor area — but there is nothing to break. For high-cycle operations where crates take rough handling, that durability usually wins.
