Why bakery crates look nothing like a standard crate
Bread leaves the oven hot and keeps releasing steam for some time. Stacked in an unventilated crate, that steam condenses on the crust and undoes the bake. Bakery trays are ventilated on every face for exactly this reason.
They are also shallow. Depth is the enemy: loaves at the bottom of a deep crate carry the weight of everything above and arrive crushed. A shallow tray that stacks securely moves more saleable product than a deep one that fits more in.
The footprints here are wider than standard modular crates, sized to the tray and rack systems bakeries already run rather than to a Euro pallet.
